The Private i Desktop
private i has a main window with a menu and toolbar at top. This is called the private i desktop. A set of buttons on a toolbar give you access to the core functional areas of private i. These functional areas are described below.

Commitment is a complete record of an interest in a Limited Partnership. This handshake symbolizes the partnership between investor and
fund manager. Four ancillary ledgers, Capital Calls, Fees, Cash, Stock allow you to track the full history of cash flows of the partnership. A fifth ledger, Valuations, tracks the reported valuation from period to period. This commitments module has been carefully designed to present a snapshot of an investment, including it committed capital, unfunded commitment, inception IRR and so on. Private Placement
Memorandums
(PPMs) and other investment opportunities can be tracked in the Offerings module. The icon, an outstretched hand with a small gift, symbolizes this functionality. Offerings allows you to keep a running status of your most important activities, and record contact, notes and other due-diligence related information.

Private equity is a people business. Organization and contact management capabilities are central to the design of private i. The organizations icon symbolizes these relationships. When you add a commitment, for example, you'll identify a fund manager and the name of a partnership. Behind the scenes, private i stores these organizations in a central repository, its organization and contacts database. If a name of
an organization changes, you simply change it once and its change is reflected everywhere. This organization-centric contact manager has
support for an unlimited number of organizations and contacts and their related addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses and so on. This contact manager is one of the underpinnings to the Fund of Funds Administration Module. Another reason this contact manager is essential is that, unlike more open systems such as Outlook, a degree of security and audit controls needs to be in place to protect sensitive information,
such as bank account and wiring instructions.

The contact manager within private i allows you to link your contacts to the organizations you put in private i. Each has its own set of linked addresses, telephone numbers or email addresses and notes. This icon is in the form of a set of Rolodex index cards.

What do partnerships own? As partnerships are formed and begin operations, they invest in a portfolio of companies. The Portfolio Holdings allows you to track all of the associated activity of the investments your partnerships make in companies. From quarter to quarter, as the partnership reports this activity, you simply record new investments and any changes in cost, market value and proceeds from these companies. Your cross holdings and diversification reports. An important aspect is that this model is not directly tied to your commitment -- all entries are recorded at the partnership level. This design, reinforced by the experience of our clients, allows you to record your exposure across
partnerships.

Underpinning the investments in portfolio holdings is information related to the companies themselves. A portfolio company (or any entity including Real Estate) can be quickly characterized in this module.

Reports create output from this data, creating information, to meet a wide range of requirements including providing simple lists, auditing cash flows, providing performance metrics such as rates of return and investment multiples, graphing industry and geographic dispersion of investments and so on. Where the steps of reporting are complicated they are reduced to a series of steps. For faster reporting, custom sets of selected partnerships can be saved and later recalled by name. All reports can be exported to a variety of popular formats, including Excel, XML, ASCII, dBASE, Paradox and so on.
